Employment Law Training

Employment law is a technical legal area which changes often by reference to decided cases and new legislation from the UK or the EU.  It is crucial to be aware of new legal developments and to avoid the pitfalls which can arise if you are not up-to-date when making important decisions.

All of the EAD Employment Law solicitors regularly attend events to present training on employment law issues.  This can be to address particular areas of concern or to provide updates.  EAD has provided training on a very regular basis for our clients, and this has mainly been for Trade Unions (involving different levels of representative), and for ACAS delegates. EAD can address your training needs through a plan of events or to address a particular problem, e.g. training on a proposed TUPE transfer or redundancies, or in general for employment law updates.

The training programmes are directed to a practical outcome and involve case studies and worked examples.  Stephen Pinder is a former Employment Judge who has brought this experience to training sessions, including running a Mock Employment Tribunal hearings for Trade Unions and ACAS as an organisation.

As a long standing officer for the TGWU and now Unite the Union, I have over the past 27 years attended countless hours of training.  I am responsible for organising training for many of our senior representatives as the District Secretary of the Birmingham Power Engineering District Committee, and I am now Secretary of the West Midlands Aerospace RISC.  During that period I have worked closely with EAD and particularly Stephen Pinder who has been responsible for delivering training.  When setting up training I always start from the standpoint of asking myself one question:- 

“What would I as a Senior Representative want from the training?”

I will always have the following points in mind:-

It must be delivered clearly.

It must be relevant to the daily challenges faced by our representatives. 

The Solicitor delivering the training must be absolutely committed to achieving justice for our members and has a good industrial grounding, as well as appropriate legal experience. 

Finally, the Solicitor must make the training interesting.

I can say without doubt that during my time working with EAD and Stephen Pinder, his input has helped me to help our members and the representatives to help themselves.  That is, after all, what we are here for.
