E-conveyancing news from EAD Solicitors LLP's conveyancing solicitor team

The conveyancing solicitor team is up to speed with all the news from the Land Registry, and recently it has been reported that there will be an electronic pilot (to help your conveyancing solicitor) to be launched in October 2007. The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs has given permission for the Land Registry to go ahead with its inaugural e-conveyancing pilot service in 2007, which would be used for domestic sales of property. October 2007 has partly been chosen to allow the industry, including conveyancing solicitor firms, sufficiently adjust to changes such as Home Information Packs, which would be brought into use in the summer of 2007.

The e-conveyancing pilot that will be launched in October 2007 will affect conveyancing solicitor firms all over the country. The pilot will be the first step on the road towards a full electronic conveyancing system that will assist the work of conveyancing solicitor firms. There has already been an experiment with this system in the South of England, in areas such as Bristol and Portsmouth. The system is called the Chain Matrix and is there to give information about all transactions in the property chain - much like a conveyancing solicitor - and this will give a better sense of transparency to such transactions. Voluntary users will be the first to step up to use the system.

It is thought that when e-conveyancing is introduced it will go a long way towards transforming the current system that uses paper, and bring conveyancing solicitor firms all over the country into the 21st century! Along with electronic documents, there will be electronic signatures and requisitions which are considered as core factors, for conveyancing solicitor firms, by the government in their bid to modernise public services. Research has shown that the world's largest property database contains well over 20 million properties. The Land Registry works with conveyancing solicitor firms by making guarantees of ownership, via properties which are collectively worth well over a billion pounds.
