Injured employee awarded £500,000
A male worker has been awarded in excess of £500,000 in personal
injury compensation after becoming temporarily paralysed following
a workplace fall.
Home and Retail Deliveries driver, Colin White, has been told by
medical experts that he will never work again following an incident
in York in 2005 which saw him fall from his vehicle, according to
the York Press.
As Mr White stepped backwards on to the lift, he found it had
been moved and he fell, hitting the back of his neck on the
metal.
The 53-year-old was provided with a van that had a tail lift
after joining his employers, but he had not been trained to use
properly by his employer. As a result he struck the back of his
neck on the implement when he fell off it.
However, with the help of the personal injury compensation
specialists Mr White has now received a damages settlement of more
than £500,000 for his ordeal, which has left him in a state of
constant pain.
According to the Health and Safety Executive, all employers are
required by law to ensure their staff - including self-employed
contractors - are clearly instructed and trained for their
duties.
This includes providing information on what hazards and risks they
may face, how to deal with them and what to do in case of an
emergency.
Millions of workers are injured every year throughout the UK and
compensation is available with the right help. For information on
