New era for EAD Solicitors

This month sees the launch of a new era at EAD Solicitors with the firm unveiling a new look management team, completing its merger with Widnes practice Poole Swale and converting to LLP status.

The new look management team sees long standing partner Mike Sexton taking on the senior partner role from Tom Doherty, the founding member of EAD in 1989. Partner Steve Cornforth also takes on the newly created role of deputy managing partner. Both Mike Sexton and Steve Conforth will work closely with EAD's managing partner, Garry Abrams.

After stepping down as senior partner, Tom Doherty will continue as a partner specialising in high-value personal injury claims, covering both employer's liability and road traffic accidents. He is highly recognised in his work for trade unions and acts exclusively for claimants.

Said Mike Sexton, who has been at EAD since 1993 and also heads up the personal injury department: "Tom has done a fantastic job as senior partner and has taken the firm to a whole new level. I am certain to be liaising with him very closely in the future and his input will continue to be invaluable."

"I am looking forward to the challenge," added Mike. "The firm has achieved a great deal in recent years. As the legal services market continues to evolve there is considerable scope for us to achieve even more in the future.

"The Legal Services Act is on the horizon and firms are asking what it will mean for them in the long term. It could potentially introduce a level of competition unknown before. But there is no need to be scared of change - we are well positioned to take advantage of future opportunities. We have a first rate client base and first rate people."

By amalgamating Widnes based law firm Poole Swale into its practice, EAD will strengthen its private client work, conveyancing, commercial litigation and debt recovery practice areas.

Said Garry Abrams, Managing Partner at EAD: "We are delighted to complete this deal. It is a hugely positive development for both firms.

"Poole Swale has an excellent reputation, particularly for private client work; an area we see a great deal of potential and future development in."

EAD's conversion to LLP status also becomes effective as from 1st May.

Added Garry: "The conversion to LLP status, complemented by the expansion of our management team, provides the firm with the appropriate corporate structure to tackle the challenges ahead."
