Personal injury compensation over hearing damage
A Wakefield man has been awarded an undisclosed compensation fee
after a crane exploded into the side of his
vehicle, damaging his hearing in the process.
Paul Dooley was making routine deliveries on behalf of his
Leeds-based employer, UniChem, when a nearby crane exploded into
the side of his transit van while he waited at traffic lights
in Doncaster.
The crane's faulty brakes generated enough heat
to cause a localised explosion. Its front wheel was propelled into
the side door of Mr Dooley's van, leaving him covered in shattered
glass.
"It all happened so quickly and after the accident, I was in
shock for hours. All three of the emergency services showed up and
had to assess the whole situation and every minute detail. My van
was written off and I still suffer with pain today," said Mr
Dooley.
The injuries sustained to his inner ear as a result of the blast
left the 45-year-old delivery driver with a number of side effects
requiring medical assistance, including drowsiness.
Mr Dooley's solicitor commented on the case: "The safety of all
road users, at all times, is of paramount importance. Mr
Dooley's accident took place two years ago yet he still suffers
from its effects today. We are delighted to have been able to
secure him compensation for his dreadful ordeal."
While the circumstances of Mr Dooley's injuries are rare,
unfortunately, accidents are an everyday occurrence. If you've been
