War veteran launches amputation claim
A veteran who fought valiantly for Britain during the Second
World War is pursuing substantial personal injury compensation
after losing his leg crossing the road.
Doctors were forced to amputate 88-year-old Edwin George's right
leg after a double-decker bus collided with him at a crossing near
Harrow bus station last December.
According to the Harrow Observer, the pensioner was forced to
have his right leg removed below the knee, due to the serious
nature of his injury, which has proved "catastrophic" to his way of
life.
The accident means Mr George can no longer live independently
and has to rely on family members to help him. He is seeking
subsequent damages from Arriva, the bus company responsible for his
injuries, and driver Mannivald Himma, who has since been charged
with driving without due care and attention.
"My daughter and son-in-law are as frustrated with this
situation as I am as it has affected their lives as well as mine,"
added Mr George.
"Although we cannot change what has happened we feel life could
be made a little easier for all of us if we were given some help
and financial assistance so we could make the necessary home
improvements and get some decent healthcare in place."
