Ground breaking case concerning settlement of Pandora Jewellery agency claims

In the High Court case of McQuillan & Anor v McCormick & Ors [2010] EWHC 1112 (QB) (17 May 2010), a member of the PSA recovered unpaid commissions of 41,478.81 and compensation of £150,000. The member's overall award was £256,555.86, which was paid shortly after judgment was given. One interesting feature of the case is that the member only had the agency for a mere 2 years, during which period it increased massively in value. This is an example of a union member being backed all of the way through litigation to court proceedings and getting a great result.

Binding agreement reached for automotive agents

In the cases of Mr P and Mr B, who both acted as agents for an automotive distributor, a settlement meeting took place during which the principal made settlement offers to both of them, only to later deny having made binding offers. The solicitor for Messrs P and B was present at the settlement meeting (the principal was not represented) and gave evidence at court of the binding settlement reached, which resulted in payments to the members of around £50,000 and £60,000 respectively.
