I come from a working class family background and went to work from the age of 16 in manufacturing, brewing and the Mining industry for approximately 18 years. During this time I worked as a trade union official and became an area executive member of the NUM, whilst at the same time undertaking part time educational courses. I left mining in 1993 to take up a full time degree course at Leeds Metropolitan University and completed the LLB Hons. course before commencing a Solicitors training contract with a Manchester based trade union firm of solicitors before joining EAD.
LLB Hons Degree at Leeds Metropolitan University and completed Solicitors Training contract before being admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in November 2001.
Greatest Professional Achievement
No specific one achievement but having represented union members in cases where employers had underpaid contractual earnings for several years and recovered those lost earnings for the members, and also having obtained an order for reinstatement against a major retailer for a dismissed employee and successfully appealed a criminal injuries case for a member where the compensation was increased by more than 400% would be amongst my achievements professionally.
Greatest Personal Achievement
Making the transformation from union official to qualify as a solicitor in 2001. And being able to continue representing and advising union members on their rights.
When not in the office I can be found enjoying music (mainly Soul & Motown), gardening, walking, watching football (season ticket Holder) and other spectator sports.
