Obstetrics is the specialty dealing with the care of a woman and her new child during childbirth and the period shortly following birth. It is a fact that clinical negligence claims in this specialty consistently outnumber those in any other area of medicine. Obstetric cases are about double those in gynaecology.
Mistakes made during ante-natal care and birth can lead to serious problems, and at worst in some cases, even the death of the baby. There can also be failure to detect serious abnormalities of the unborn baby despite scanning, plus there may be risk of suffering through damage from medical instruments, anaesthetics or inadequate suturing.
Other injuries can arise from different types of gynaecological treatment, including contraceptive procedures, termination of pregnancy and surgery. A case for compensation can also arise in ‘wrongful birth’ cases, where a failed sterilisation or other contraceptive procedure results in a baby being conceived.
Obstetric claims cover a very wide range of issues. These can include:
Cerebral Palsy and birth asphyxia
Congenital hip dysplasia
Damage to baby because of mismanaged labour or delivery
Damage to baby because of the failure to note a high risk pregnancy
Erbs palsy or brachial plexus injuries
Failure to detect abnormalities in foetus
Failure to diagnose and treat an ectopic pregnancy
(This list is not exhaustive)

Extremely happy with the outcome of my Personal Injury Claim and can only thank Paul McCarthy and his team at EAD Solicitors and also Tim Trotman my barrister arranged by EAD, for all their work and efforts on my behalf. As such I would highly recommend EAD to anyone in need of their service. Once again thanks to all involved.
