Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine that deals with the anatomy, physiology and diseases of the eye. An ophthalmologist is a specialist in medical and surgical eye problems. Since ophthalmologists perform operations on eyes, they are considered to be both surgical and medical specialists.
While ophthalmology negligence claims are infrequent in England, with less than 5% of patients experiencing unforeseen infections and eye injuries they are not unheard of. When a case of medical negligence does occur, the consequences for the patient can be severe, at worst the patient can be left with a loss of vision.
Common ophthalmology negligence claims include:
Laser eye treatment for correction of long or short sightedness
Cataract surgery; particularly concerning the pre-op consenting and counselling process
Management of metallic FB (foreign body) in eye
Delay in diagnosis and treatment of Glaucoma
Trauma to eyes and subsequent management
Traumatic retinal detachment
(This list is not exhaustive)

Extremely happy with the outcome of my Personal Injury Claim and can only thank Paul McCarthy and his team at EAD Solicitors and also Tim Trotman my barrister arranged by EAD, for all their work and efforts on my behalf. As such I would highly recommend EAD to anyone in need of their service. Once again thanks to all involved.
