EAD is regularly instructed by clients to provide legal advice in relation to Settlement Agreements. This can be when an Agreement is proposed and needs to be negotiated, or alternatively, it can simply be to provide advice and assistance when a provisional deal has already been agreed. A Settlement Agreement is one of the most important documents which will be signed by an employee or employer and having the best advice available is crucial. It is usual for advice to be needed at short notice and EAD has a reputation for responding to client needs in this area.
A Settlement Agreement will usually operate to resolve all employment disputes on a full and final settlement basis. Therefore, if you receive notice of an offer for employment to end, it is important that you get the best advice, making sure that the deal is reasonable and that your legal rights are protected.
EAD also acts on behalf of employers in relation to Settlement Agreements and when such an Agreement is proposed and agreed, it is crucial for the employer to know that their future rights are protected and that the Agreement will operate as proposed, making sure that no claim is pursued against the business in the future.
Every year EAD deals with hundreds of Settlement Agreements and when we act for individuals it is usual for the legal costs arising to be met by the employer, so that you can receive best advice at no cost. We will negotiate terms, often improving the deal available and making sure that your legal rights are protected.
EAD clients have said the following about our work in relation to Settlement Agreements:-
One Client said:- “I instructed Steve in relation to a fairly complex settlement agreement. He was extremely approachable and friendly which immediately set me at ease. Steve spent a great deal of time going through the draft agreement with me, clause by clause. His advice throughout was clear, concise and practical. He kept me fully updated at all times regarding the progress of the negotiations and overall he made a very difficult and stressful situation a great deal easier”. N.S.
Peter Bounds, said:- “EAD have advised on about 100 Settlement Agreements for members of a Trade Union representing senior officers in local authorities. The service provided is excellent; professional, bespoke, within tight timescales when necessary, entirely sensitive to the local Government context, giving effect to the terms agreed and offering clients clear advice that is comprehensive and comprehensible”.
A Settlement Agreement is a useful device for both employers and employees when seeking to resolve an employment dispute. They are though important to get right and for individuals and businesses it is important to know that your adviser has experience in this important area and that the outcome will be what you need to move on with your career or with running your business.

Extremely happy with the outcome of my Personal Injury Claim and can only thank Paul McCarthy and his team at EAD Solicitors and also Tim Trotman my barrister arranged by EAD, for all their work and efforts on my behalf.
