Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) is a chemical that is all too commonly found in hair dyes. It fixes hair dyes to the hair so that it remains permanent. The government is currently being asked to review the use of PPD in hair dyes because it has caused injury to some people. The problems include allergic reactions such as itching, burning and swelling of the head. Even breathing difficulties are being linked to products containing PPD.
Potential risk of negligence
One particular client, bought a popular home dye kit and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions carried out the recommended patch test, which did not highlight any concerns. However, when the dye was applied to her head, she suffered an allergic reaction which caused her head and ears to swell and her scalp to burn. She was left with a severe rash and required medical attention
Can I make a claim if believe my health has been effected by the use of PPD?
Whilst there are always risks attached with beauty treatments if you can prove that your therapist was negligent and that this negligence caused your injury then you will most likely be able to make a claim for compensation. If you think that you have suffered a reaction and would like some further advice, then contact our sympathetic team, who will be happy to discuss your personal experiences and advise you. Our expert beauty treatment claim solicitors will be able to talk you through the claim procedure and answer any questions you might have.

Extremely happy with the outcome of my Personal Injury Claim and can only thank Paul McCarthy and his team at EAD Solicitors and also Tim Trotman my barrister arranged by EAD, for all their work and efforts on my behalf. As such I would highly recommend EAD to anyone in need of their service. Once again thanks to all involved.
